The mission of the NKR is to save and improve the lives of people facing kidney failure by increasing the quality, speed, and number of living donor transplants in the world.
National Kidney Registry held its annual dinner at the Rainbow Room in NYC May 4, 2016 to toast the non-directed donors who donated through the NKR over the past year. There were fifteen of us who received a lovely award and some very kind words. Each of us initiated a kidney chain that ranged in length from 3 recipients to 28 recipients. How many thousands of lives does the sum of those donations impact directly and indirectly? How many mothers and fathers are going to have years with their children that they would not have had otherwise? I don't know the exact number, but I know it's a lot. And all for a little manageable inconvenience on our parts.
